There is a company in Madrid called City Life who accommodate mainly exchange students and help you to prepare and settle into the city. They offer housing help, various activities and trips, discounts and overall advice about Madrid.
They have helped me on various occasions since arriving in September, from helping with Legal Documents to giving me a replacement sim card when my phone was stolen, even to organising social activities! After noticing an advertisement on their Facebook page for the position of a Travel Photographer I emailed them to arrange a meeting about the opportunity.
I met them in their office where we talked about the opportunity and all that it would involve. The position included going along on their organised trips to various destinations around Spain as well as trips to Portugal and Morocco to photograph the day and the location. The images would be posted on their websites, be sold to customers and feature on their social media pages. As well as this being a great chance for some work experience in the field, I also get to attend all the trips so can see more of Spain while working!
My first trip was a trial shift which was to Toledo, although I have been before the dynamic was very different. We began the day with a guided tour so I saw much more of the city than I did when I initially visited. This was then followed by activities and free time before the bus departure at 6pm.
I really enjoyed this new experience and will be looking to do as many trips as possible. I'm hoping it will help me with events and travel photography in the future as well as being fun!
