Entitled ‘Eight’, this body of work is a collaboration between myself and my twin eight-year-old cousins, Sophie and Rebecca. Surrounding the idea of pedagogy, the initial aim of this project was to teach Sophie and Rebecca the art in photography rather than the common snapshot and selfie culture which is so dominant in today’s society. Practicing various forms of photography through free rein, prompts and the introduction of multi-media art this body of work was inspired by Anthony Luvera’s publication ‘Using Children’s Photographs’.
Conceptually I wanted to investigate the similarities and differences between my twin cousins through their approach to this project due to their identical up bring but diverse personalities. Furthermore, showing how creatively they can approach the same project but in two very different ways. I wanted to see how this would be captured through art and photography.
This body of work was presented in a casual exhibition located at my cousin’s house. This due to the personal need to make the presentation not too exclusive due to the target audience involving children. For the exhibition I created a publication for the visitors to take away with them. I created two publications, presenting both Sophie and Rebecca’s work separately.
Within the exhibition were prints of the images which Sophie and Rebecca selected to be presented. They were accompanied by audio clips which were recorded of Sophie and Rebecca explaining the process and concept behind the images. The exhibition was incredibly successful, with many visitors and Sophie and Rebecca were very pleased with what we had created.
