Home from Home is a collaboration between photographer Emily Carter and her Grandmother, Edna Harris. Focusing on the importance of place and family as well as the relationship between both collaborators, this body of work has explored the daily lives of both Emily and Edna since their geographical distances have increased. With one photograph a day captured over a fortnight, Edna’s images surround her favoured pastime; gardening. In response to her Grandmother’s daily activities, photographer Emily Carter has captured the daily weather through her bedroom window. Home from Home explores how a simple interaction each day can enhance a relationship. This body of work is presented in a dual photobook with accompanied acetate prints which when combined capture the accumulation of time through our 14-day daily journal.

3 Old Drove is a collaborative piece which explores the personal memories through existing, archival photography in relation to the house which photographer, Emily Carter’s, Grandfather built. The notion of place has been significant in the response to these personal albums as the memories are specifically attached to the home. Although partially focusing on the grief of the loss of a loved one, through the exploration of place the relationship has developed between photographer and collaborator, Edna Harris, as they have bonded through this exploration.

Presented in a ‘dos á dos’ style photobook, this body of work unites the past and present through an interactive piece with two conjoined photobooks. These two conjoined books allow for a clear divide in new and existing, archival images while acting as a visual response to the relationship between identity and place. This body of work encourages its audience to reflect on the photograph and family album as a notion of memory, identity and narrative.
